How can visual literacy and the use of the Internet impact the teaching and learning process in the classroom? What are some visual-thinking strategies you would like to use in your classroom? What role do you want the Internet play in your classroom?

Visual literacy impacts the teaching process by using multiple learning styles to relay information. For example, I have personally learned about the different taxonomy levels of thinking via text and charts. I have just seen a short video made on it and I atest that I remember more about Bloom's from the video because I can put the idea with a picture.

The internet is a great tool in my classroom to link the students to all the things and places that I can't afford to take them. We use it on a daily bases for content and research, but I really want to get the students to start more explorations. I just recently learned about LAN and WAN networks and our school network is often the only access that my students have so I want them to feel comfortable exploring so when they get into the job force, they will be prepared to use the tech tools.

The visual strategies I generally use in class right now are to have a referent to connect to the content. I am all about making connections and I use visuals in that manner. I think the two visual uses the I am going to focus on in class is organizational. I think this will be very beneficial in math and writing. The other uses I am also thinking about is abstract ideas and creating something concrete. Which also makes me want to work on analogies, to explain the relationship of one to another. If I can use visuals for these abstract ideas, I know my students will be much more successful with retaining the content. I also know that since 4th grade places more heavy emphasis on inference and predictions and drawing conclusions, having a visual strategy will be most benefitial for the students.

Aloha Keoni,
I finally figured out how to do this. I really like your ideas for the classroom. The kids will learn more by just having pictures around the room with maybe some prompt to get them started. They could do group work so they be learning how to work together and take an active roll in their own education.
One of the other classmates has a video on site. The kids really go into deep detail about a picture that was presented and it was interesting to see how much they are capable of doing.
With a bit of guidance from the teacher, very minimal, the kids came up with lots of sincere things that they saw in the picture.
These are all great posts and I am learning some great ideas for September. Visual strategies are very important and should be a part of the classroom.
